Hadith 241
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā (may Allah be pleased with him)

ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I asked him, “Did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ carry out stoning [as a punishment]?” He said, “Yes, [in the case of] a Jewish man and a Jewish woman.” I asked, “Was that after the revelation of Sūrat al-Nūr, or before it?” He said, “I do not know.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 241

حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ قَالَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ أَخْبَرَنِي قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى رَجَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ نَعَمْ يَهُودِيًّا وَيَهُودِيَّةً قَالَ قُلْتُ بَعْدَ نُزُولِ النُّورِ أَوْ قَبْلَهَا قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي

Hadith 242
Ḍaʿīf

Musnad ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā (may Allah be pleased with him)

ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ say: “The Khawārij are the dogs of Hellfire.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 242

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ الْخَوَارِجُ هُمْ كِلَابُ النَّارِ

Hadith 243
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad Jābir ibn Samurah al-Suwāʾī (may Allah be pleased with him)

Jābir ibn Samurah al-Suwāʾī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ say, “This affair [of the caliphate] will continue to prevail until twelve leaders have arisen,” then he ﷺ said something that I did not catch, so I asked my father what he had said. He said, “All of them will be from Quraysh.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 243

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ لَا يَزَالُ هَذَا الْأَمْرُ مَاضِيًا حَتَّى يَقُومَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ أَمِيرًا ثُمَّ تَكَلَّمَ بِكَلِمَةٍ خَفِيَتْ عَلَيَّ فَسَأَلْتُ أَبِي مَا قَالَ قَالَ كُلُّهُمْ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ

Hadith 244
Ḥasan

Musnad Jābir ibn Samurah al-Suwāʾī (may Allah be pleased with him)

Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ say, “There will be twelve leaders after me,” then he ﷺ said something I could not make out, so I asked one of those present, or the person next to me, “What did he say?” He said, “All of them will be from Quraysh.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 244

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ أَبُو حَفْصٍ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ يَكُونُ بَعْدِي اثْنَا عَشَرَ أَمِيرًا قَالَ ثُمَّ تَكَلَّمَ فَخَفِيَ عَلَيَّ مَا قَالَ قَالَ فَسَأَلْتُ بَعْضَ الْقَوْمِ أَوِ الَّذِي يَلِينِي مَا قَالَ قَالَ كُلُّهُمْ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ

Hadith 245
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad Jābir ibn Samurah al-Suwāʾī (may Allah be pleased with him)

Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I never saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ deliver a sermon except while standing. Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 245

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَخْطُبُ إِلَّا قَائِمًا

Hadith 246
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad ʿAbdullāh ibn Jaʿfar ibn Abī Ṭālib (may Allah be pleased with him)

ʿAbdullāh ibn Jaʿfar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ eating cucumber with fresh dates. Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 246

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَأْكُلُ الْقِثَّاءَ بِالرُّطَبِ

Hadith 247
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad Abī Juḥayfah Wahb ibn ʿAbdullāh al-Suwāʾī (may Allah be pleased with him)

Abū Juḥayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ, and that the person who most resembled him was al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī. Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 247

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو جُحَيْفَةَ أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَكَانَ أَشْبَهَ النَّاسِ بِهِ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ

Hadith 248
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad Jundub ibn Sufyān al-Bajalī al-ʿAlaqī, of Kūfah (may Allah be pleased with him)

Jundub ibn Sufyān al-Bajalī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ said: “I will be your forerunner at the [Kawthar] Pond.” Sufyān [ibn ʿUyaynah] explained: “The faraṭ is the one who goes ahead of others.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 248

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ سَمِعَهُ مِنْ جُنْدُبٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ أَنَا فَرَطُكُمْ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ الْفَرَطُ الَّذِي يَسْبِقُ

Hadith 249
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad Jundub ibn Sufyān al-Bajalī al-ʿAlaqī, of Kūfah (may Allah be pleased with him)

Jundub ibn Sufyān al-Bajalī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: He prayed with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ on the Day of Sacrifice, and when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ finished, he found meat from sacrificial animals already slaughtered. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ realized that they had been slaughtered before the prayer, so he ﷺ said, “Whoever slaughtered before we prayed, let him slaughter another in its place; and whoever has not yet slaughtered until we have prayed, let him slaughter in the name of Allah.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 249

حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ عَنْ جُنْدُبِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ الْبَجَلِيِّ ثُمَّ الْعَلَقِيِّ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَوْمَ أَضْحًى فَانْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَإِذَا هُوَ بِاللَّحْمِ وَذَبَائِحِ الْأَضْحَى فَعَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهَا ذُبِحَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَنْ كَانَ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ فَلْيَذْبَحْ مَكَانَهَا أُخْرَى وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ ذَبَحَ حَتَّى صَلَّيْنَا فَلْيَذْبَحْ بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ

Hadith 250
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad Nubayṭ ibn Sharīṭ (may Allah be pleased with him)

Nubayṭ ibn Sharīṭ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported, as narrated by his son Salamah: My father, who had performed Ḥajj with the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ, said, “I saw him delivering a sermon on the Day of ʿArafah while on his camel.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 250

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ نُبَيْطٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَكَانَ قَدْ حَجَّ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ رَأَيْتُهُ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ عَلَى بَعِيرِهِ

Hadith 251
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad Nubayṭ ibn Sharīṭ (may Allah be pleased with him)

Nubayṭ ibn Sharīṭ (may Allah be pleased with him) is reported, through his son Salamah, to have said: My father, my grandfather, and my paternal uncle were with the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ. My father told me, “I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ delivering a sermon on the afternoon of ʿArafah, on a red camel.” Salamah said: My father advised me regarding the pre-dawn prayer; I said, “Father, I cannot manage it.” He said, “Then at least observe the two rakʿahs before Fajr — never abandon them, and do not go out seeking or taking part in fitnah.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 251

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَبُو يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ نُبَيْطٍ قَالَ كَانَ أَبِي وَجَدِّي وَعَمِّي مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي قَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَخْطُبُ عَشِيَّةَ عَرَفَةَ عَلَى جَمَلٍ أَحْمَرَ قَالَ قَالَ سَلَمَةُ أَوْصَانِي أَبِي بِصَلَاةِ السَّحَرِ قُلْتُ يَا أَبَةْ إِنِّي لَا أُطِيقُهَا قَالَ فَانْظُرِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ فَلَا تَدَعَنَّهُمَا وَلَا تَشْخَصْ فِي الْفِتْنَةِ

Hadith 252
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad ʿUrwah al-Bāriqī (may Allah be pleased with him)

ʿUrwah al-Bāriqī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ say, “Goodness is tied to the forelocks of horses [dedicated to jihād].” [Shabīb al-Bāriqī, the sub-narrator, added:] And I saw seventy horses in his quarters. Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 252

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ أَخْبَرَنَا الْبَارِقِيُّ شَبِيبٌ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُرْوَةَ الْبَارِقِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ الْخَيْلُ مَعْقُودٌ فِي نَوَاصِيهَا الْخَيْرُ وَرَأَيْتُ فِي دَارِهِ سَبْعِينَ فَرَسًا

Hadith 253
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad ʿAbdullāh ibn Sarjis, of Kūfah (may Allah be pleased with him)

ʿAbdullāh ibn Sarjis (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that whenever the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ set out on a journey, he would say: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, from a sorrowful return, from deviation after firm standing, from the supplication of the wronged, and from an ill-fated sight in family and property.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 253

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَاصِمٌ بِالْكُوفَةِ فَلَمْ أَكْتُبْهُ فَسَمِعْتُ شُعْبَةَ يُحَدِّثُ بِهِ فَعَرَفْتُهُ بِهِ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ إِذَا سَافَرَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ وَكَآبَةِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ وَالْحَوْرِ بَعْدَ الْكَوْرِ وَدَعْوَةِ الْمَظْلُومِ وَسُوءِ الْمَنْظَرِ فِي الْأَهْلِ وَالْمَالِ

Hadith 254
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad ʿAbdullāh ibn Sarjis, of Kūfah (may Allah be pleased with him)

ʿAbdullāh ibn Sarjis (may Allah be pleased with him) — who, ʿĀṣim noted, had indeed seen the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ — reported: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ set out on a journey, he would say, “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, from a sorrowful return, from deviation after firm standing, from the supplication of the wronged, and from an ill-fated sight in property and family.” And when he returned, he would say the same, except that he would say “in family and property,” mentioning the family first. حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ قَالَ عَاصِمٌ وَقَدْ كَانَ رَأَى النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا خَرَجَ فِي سَفَرٍ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ وَكَآبَةِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ وَالْحَوْرِ بَعْدَ الْكَوْرِ وَدَعْوَةِ الْمَظْلُومِ وَسُوءِ الْمَنْظَرِ فِي الْمَالِ وَالْأَهْلِ وَإِذَا رَجَعَ قَالَ مِثْلَهَا إِلَّا أَنَّهُ يَقُولُ وَسُوءِ الْمَنْظَرِ فِي الْأَهْلِ وَالْمَالِ يَبْدَأُ بِالْأَهْلِ

Hadith 255
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad ʿAbdullāh ibn Thaʿlabah ibn Ṣuʿayr (may Allah be pleased with him)

ʿAbdullāh ibn Thaʿlabah ibn Ṣuʿayr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ looked upon those slain at Uḥud and said: “I bear witness concerning these [that they fought and died for Allah’s sake]. Wrap them in their wounds and their blood.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 255

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي صُعَيْرٍ وَثَبَّتَنِيهِ مَعْمَرٌ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَشْرَفَ عَلَى قَتْلَى أُحُدٍ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَشْهَدُ عَلَى هَؤُلَاءِ زَمِّلُوهُمْ بِكُلُومِهِمْ وَدِمَائِهِمْ

Hadith 256
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad al-Sāʾib ibn Yazīd, of Kūfah and Madīnah (may Allah be pleased with him)

Al-Sāʾib ibn Yazīd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I went out with the boys to Thaniyyat al-Wadāʿ to welcome the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ upon his return from the campaign of Tabūk. Sufyān [ibn ʿUyaynah] once narrated it as: “I remember the Prophet’s ﷺ arrival, when the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ returned from Tabūk.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 256

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ الصِّبْيَانِ إِلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ نَتَلَقَّى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنْ غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً أَذْكُرُ مَقْدِمَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنْ تَبُوكَ

Hadith 257
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad al-Sāʾib ibn Yazīd, of Kūfah and Madīnah (may Allah be pleased with him)

Al-Sāʾib ibn Yazīd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported — Sufyān once qualifying it with “if Allah wills” — that the Prophet (ﷺ) ﷺ wore two coats of mail, one over the other, on the Day of Uḥud; Sufyān narrated it another time without that qualification. Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 257

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ خُصَيْفَةَ عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ظَاهَرَ بَيْنَ دِرْعَيْنِ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَحَدَّثَنَا بِهِ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى فَلَمْ يَسْتَثْنِ فِيهِ

Hadith 258
Ḥasan

Musnad Muḥammad ibn Ḥāṭib al-Jumaḥī (may Allah be pleased with him)

Muḥammad ibn Ḥāṭib al-Jumaḥī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ said, “What distinguishes the lawful from the unlawful [in marriage] is the tambourine and the sound in the marriage .” [It is also related by Shuʿbah, from Abū Balj, that he said:] I said to Muḥammad ibn Ḥāṭib, “I have married two women without the tambourine being beaten for me.” He said, “How poorly you have done! The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ said, ‘What distinguishes the lawful from the unlawful is the sound’ “ — meaning the beating of the tambourine. Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 258

حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَلْجٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ الْجُمَحِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَصْلٌ بَيْنَ الْحَلَالِ وَالْحَرَامِ الدُّفُّ وَالصَّوْتُ فِي النِّكَاحِوَرَوَاهُ شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي بَلْجٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ إِنِّي قَدْ تَزَوَّجْتُ امْرَأَتَيْنِ لَمْ يُضْرَبْ عَلَيَّ بِدُفٍّ قَالَ بِئْسَمَا صَنَعْتَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِنَّ فَصْلَ مَا بَيْنَ الْحَلَالِ وَالْحَرَامِ الصَّوْتُ يَعْنِي الضَّرْبَ بِالدُّفِّ

Hadith 259
Ṣaḥīḥ

Musnad ʿĀmir al-Muzanī, of Makkah and Madīnah (may Allah be pleased with him)

ʿĀmir al-Muzanī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ addressing the people at Minā on a mule, wearing a red cloak, with a man who had witnessed [the Battle of] Badr standing before him, relaying his words [to the crowd]. I came forward and put my hand between his foot and his sandal-strap, and I marveled at how cool it was. Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 259

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِلَالُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ الْمُزَنِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ بِمِنًى عَلَى بَغْلَةٍ وَعَلَيْهِ بُرْدٌ أَحْمَرُ قَالَ وَرَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ يُعَبِّرُ عَنْهُ قَالَ فَجِئْتُ حَتَّى أَدْخَلْتُ يَدِي بَيْنَ قَدَمِهِ وَشِرَاكِهِ قَالَ فَجَعَلْتُ أَعْجَبُ مِنْ بَرَدِهَا

Hadith 260
Ḍaʿīf

Musnad al-Ḥārith ibn Ḥassān al-Bakrī (may Allah be pleased with him)

Al-Ḥārith ibn Ḥassān al-Bakrī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We arrived in Madīnah, and there was the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ upon the pulpit, with Bilāl standing before him, girded with a sword, before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ﷺ. There were black banners, and I asked what these banners were for. They said, “ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ has returned from a military expedition.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 260

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ الْبَكْرِيِّ قَالَ قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَبِلَالٌ قَائِمٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مُتَقَلِّدٌ السَّيْفَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَإِذَا رَايَاتٌ سُودٌ وَسَأَلْتُ مَا هَذِهِ الرَّايَاتُ فَقَالُوا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ قَدِمَ مِنْ غَزَاةٍ
