The Story of Ibn Sayyad - Section 1

Muhammad b. al-Munkadir told that he saw Jabir b. `Abdallah swearing by God that Ibn as-Sayyad was the dajjal, and when he expressed surprise that he should, swear by God, he replied that he had heard `Umar swearing to that in the Prophet's presence without the Prophet (ﷺ) making any objection to it. (Bukhari and Muslim.)

Hadith 5503

The Story of Ibn Sayyad - Section 2

Abu Bakra reported God's messenger as saying, "The parents of the dajjal will wait thirty years, without having any children born to them, then a boy who will be one-eyed and have a long molar tooth and be most useless will be born to them. His eyes will sleep but his heart will not." God's messenger then described his parents to them saying, "His father will be very tall and spare and will have a nose like a beak, and his mother will be a huge woman with long arms." Abu Bakra said they heard of a child being born among the Jews in Medina, so az-Zubair b. al-`Awwam and he went to visit the parents and saw that they were as God's messenger had described. They asked them if they had a child and they replied that they had waited thirty years without having a child born to them but now a boy had been born to them who was one-eyed, had a long molar tooth and was most useless, whose eyes slept but whose heart did not. When they went out, they found him lying in the sun in a wrapper mumbling. He uncovered his head and asked what they had said, and when they asked if he had heard what they said he replied that he had, for his eyes slept but his heart did not. Tirmidhi transmitted it.

Hadith 5504

The Story of Ibn Sayyad - Section 2

Jabir told that when a Jewess in Medina gave birth to a boy with an eye obliterated and a long eye-tooth God's messenger was afraid, he might be the dajjal. He found him under a wrapper mumbling, and when his mother informed him saying, "`Abdallah[*], this is Abul Qasim," he came out from the wrapper. God's messenger then said, "What is the matter with her! God curse her! If she had left him alone, he would have made things clear." He then mentioned something similar in effect to Ibn `Umar's tradition. `Umar b. al-Khattab then said, "Let me kill him, messenger of God' but he replied, "If he is the one you are not the person to deal with him, for the person to deal with him is only Jesus, son of Mary; and if he is not the one, you have no right to kill a man who belongs to a people with whom a covenant has been made." But God's messenger continued to fear that he might be the, dajjal. *This may be a proper name, or it perhaps should be translated as "servant of God". It has already been said that his name was Saf. It is transmitted in Sharh as-sunna.

Abu Huraira reported God's messenger as saying, "By Him in whose hand my soul is, the son of Mary will soon descend among you as a just judge. He will break crosses, kill swine, and abolish the jizya, and wealth will pour forth to such an extent that no one will accept it, and one sajda will be better than the world and what it contains." Abu Huraira used to say: Recite if you wish, "Not one of the people of the Book will fail to believe in him before his death...[*] *Quran; 4:159 (Bukhari and Muslim.)

He reported God's messenger as saying, "I swear by God that the son of Mary will descend as a just judge, and will break crosses, kill swine, abolish the jizya, and leave the young she-camels so that collectors of zakat will not be employed for them. Spite, mutual hatred, and jealousy of one another will certainly depart, and when he summons people to accept wealth not one will do so." Muslim transmitted it.

Hadith 5507

Jabir reported God's messenger as saying, "A section of my people will not cease to fight for the truth and prevail till the day of resurrection." He said that Jesus, son of Mary would then descend and their commander would invite him to come and lead them in prayer, but he would say, "No, you have some put over others as an honour from God to this people." Muslim transmitted it.

The Approach of the Last Hour, when the Time for the Resurrection of the dead has come - Section 1

Shu'ba, on Qatada's authority, said Anas reported God's messenger as saying, "My commission and the coming of the last hour are like these two[*]." Shu'ba added that he also heard Qatada say in his telling of the tradition, "Like the superiority of one of them ovel the other," but did not know whether he mentioned it on the authority of Anas, or whether Qatada said it himself. *Mirqat, 5:223 f., explains this as the middle finger and the forefinger, referring to al-Mustaurid's tradition given below. The middle finger is only slightly longer. (Bukhari and Muslim.)
